Blue Team Grabs The Victory In The Spring Game




BROOKINGS, S.D. – Taryn Christion threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-17 passing, but it was Jacob Brown who stole the show with his 70-yard one-handed snag for a touchdown as the South Dakota State Blue team defeated the White team 40-17 at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on Friday.

Brown would finish with five catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the annual Spring Game.

Chase Templeman's 50-yard pick six of Kanin Nelson was the game's first points, and then Chase Vinatieri and Jake Wolfe each put one through the uprights to make it 10-3 at the end of first 25-minute quarter.

Vinatieri finished a perfect 4-4 on field goals with a long of 43 yards while Wolfe was 1-3 on the night with a 40-yard make for the White team.

Nelson split time with Christion on the Blue team and finished 4-of-7 for 18 yards and one touchdown.

For the White team, Justin Roberts showed his athleticism on a 15-yard scramble on a busted play. He finished 3-of-9 for 70 yards and one touchdown.

For the Blue team, C.J. Wilson led the rushing attack with six carries for 62 yards.

Isaac Wallace had four carries for 20 yards while Blair Mulholland had five carries for 12 yards.

The White team would answer with two impressive drives to end the game as Pierre Strong cashed in on a 9-yard run. He finished the night with 12 carries for 60 yards, including a 21-yard burst for a first down in the second quarter.

Cade Johnson, who caught two passes for 11 yards for the Blue team, scored on a 1-yard pass from Nelson for the Blue team's final points of the game.

Deyon Campbell had three catches for 67 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown catch and run from Roberts for the final points of the game.

Mikey Daniel had six carries for 29 yards while C.J. Roths recorded one carry for five yards, rounding out the rushing attack for the White team.

Preston Tetzlaff and Lance Eide led all players with five tackles a piece. Levi Brown and Slade Wilson had four stops each for the White team. Jeremy Christner had four tackles for the Blue team.

Tristen Leiseth was credited with 2 sacks on the night for the Blue team, grabbing one of his for an eight-yard loss in the middle of the fourth quarter.

SDSU will report to fall camp in late July and will open the 2018 season Sept. 1 by traveling to Iowa State.
